The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The organization did not mention the player specifically in their statement and stated they would have ânothing more to add at this timeâ.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five yearsâ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
