The 30-year-old golfer demonstrated remarkable nerve to secure the prestigious Abu Dhabi title on Sunday, beating Tommy Fleetwood in a tense play-off following a topsy-turvy last day of competition.
Rai nailed a decisive birdie from around eight foot to clinch the win, echoing his sole prior Rolex Series success at the Scottish Open in 2020, which was also a playoff win against Fleetwood.
The champion entered the last day with a one-shot lead over countryman Tommy Fleetwood and Danish golfer Nicolai HĂžjgaard. He finished with a total score of 263 after a up-and-down, 67 closing round that included seven birdie putts and a pair of bogeys.
Fleetwood edged a stroke clear with two holes to play after a birdie on the 16th, but Rai pulled level again on the seventeenth and then failed to convert a 10-foot birdie putt to win outright on the final hole.
This led to a play-off at Yas Links where the eventual winner triumphed to take the title and $1.5m (ÂŁ1.13 million) in winnings.
{âTommy is a world-class golfer and an even more individual. To compete alongside him the last two days was truly memorable,â stated Rai, the current 30th-ranked player globally. âYouâre so concentrated on your game and maintaining focus, itâs hard to describe at the moment how it is. It is amazing to be holding the trophy.â

The Danish golfer fired six birdie putts of his own, but his hopes of leading the leaderboard were hit by a dropped shot on the 12th. English golfer Richard Mansell produced an superb final-round 63 to finish tied for fifth with Australiaâs Hillier.
