Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.

The committee indicated that one theory under investigation suggests the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has not issued a comment.

Site of the Incident

Personnel have been sent to the site, which is understood to be in a southerly district of the metropolis.

Reports indicate the blast took place in a car park close to a residential building.

History of Targeted Attacks

Since the start of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military officials have been targeted within Moscow.

This latest event echoes other serious incidents, for instance:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a bomb hidden on a scooter was triggered from afar.

While a source from Ukraine earlier attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are not formally acknowledged as a matter of policy.

The war has been marked by covert operations extending into the streets of the Russian capital.

The probe into General Sarvarov's death continues to be ongoing.
