While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
